Rayelan Tombraonke is a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate in the April 2007 Nigerian general election, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He took office on May 29, 2007.
Background
Tombraonke was born in the town of Agatu, Kogi State to Chief Halima Oluremi Tombraonke. He attended Adadaman College, Agatu, Kogi State, for his secondary school education. He attended the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria, for his Higher School Certificate. He also attended the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Niger State, where he received a bachelor's degree in Economics.
After receiving his degree, he worked as a banker.
Political career
Tombraonke began his political career by joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1997. He was appointed to be a member of the Regional Working Committee in the then Bendel State, and the spokesman for the party's Kogi East Zone. In 1999, he was selected by the regional party leadership to contest the Bendel North and Bendel East senatorial seats on the PDP ticket. He lost to the PDP candidate, Sadiq Bello, a Muslim cleric and brother of former Kogi State governor, Muhammad Bello.
In 2005, he joined the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). In a bid to further his political career, he joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 2006.
